17/1/2018 G. Schirmer Australia Signs Management & Music Publishing With William Barton
  1. Schirmer Australia is proud to announce its signing of William Barton to worldwide management and music publishing agreements. William’s compositions will be published worldwide by Music Sales’ affiliates, joining an impressive roster of the World’s top classical composers including Michael Nyman, Ludovico Einaudi, Philip Glass and Tan Dun. He will be managed worldwide from the Music Sales Sydney office.

William Barton, born in Mt Isa, Queensland, and a member of the mighty Kalkadungu tribe, has long been recognised as the World's leading didgeridoo player. Of his signing with G. Schirmer, his philosophy and his future, William says this:

“Every day you inhale and exhale the life of your existence, your art form, your passion - and breathe something new into your journey that forever is travelling and expanding the diversity of your soundscape.

“The three things in life I wake up to are: i) the people I love ii) the sunrise and iii) the music which encompasses a journey of the soul, spirit and harmony. A gift that you wish to pass on to the next generations of story tellers as it has been gifted to you.
  2. “It’s a huge honour to finally be with the A team who can help me realise and pursue my dreams to the extent of that which I envisage.

“Every sunrise is another step forward. And tomorrow I look forward to waking up and knowing that my music is alive and being shared amongst my peers and by appreciative audiences around the world.”

A jack of all genres, William has composed works for didgeridoo, orchestras, string quartets, jazz groups and rock bands. As a musical ambassador for Australia, William has represented his country at numerous international events, some highlights being his performances at the 90TH and 100TH anniversaries of the Anzac Day Landing, Gallipoli (2005 & 2015) and the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics (2008).

With five albums released, as well as contributions to many recordings with notable local and international artists, his work has earned William numerous awards and accolades, including an ARIA Award for Best Classical Album for his seminal 2012 release Kalkadungu: Music for Didjeridu and Orchestra. William has been the recipient for Honorary doctorates in Music from both Sydney University and Griffith University. William’s mother is opera singer Delmae Barton.

Managing Director of G. Schirmer Australia, Jane English, says of her signing of William:
“It’s a rare privilege to both manage and publish an artist of the talent magnitude and magnificence of William Barton. William is a multi-instrumentalist, is multi-talented and is on his way to global stardom. His performing and his composing is in heavy demand in Australia and overseas. He has performed for monarchy, ambassadors, governments, classical audiences, jazz audiences, rock audiences, kids who want to learn to play the didgeridoo. William Barton will be a household name within the next five years.”
